The Vision
“Aspire: to yearn

“To develop partnership-driven innovative approaches to support North London’s
asylum seekers- including those living with HIV+/AIDS.
North London Aspire will provide the ‘bricks’ for asylum seekers to re-build their lives.”
The Aims
- Develop a sustainable partnership to support North London’s asylum seekers
- Develop new services to address negative impact of the asylum-seeking process
- Empower asylum seekers to contribute to their host communities
- Reduce the negative effects of the Asylum Seeker > Refugee > Labour Market Transition
- Deliver Win-Win support for asylum seekers
The Rationale
- Significant numbers of asylum seekers & refugees in North London (LSC London North/LASC 2004)
- Radical changes to national asylum support policies & dispersal (Home Office 2004/5)
- Increasing numbers of HIV+/AIDS in North London BME community (SOPHID Database 2004)
- NASS failure to meet health support needs of asylum seekers (Hilary Scott Review 2004)
- Upper Lee Valley Sub-Region recognised as an area of deprivation & inequality (ODPM/ONS/EC 2004)
